2024 CASE AWARDS
We are excited to announce that Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry marketplace, has awarded Susan Oliver Heard of Heard Gallery a first-place award in the 2024 CASE Awards, the association’s annual jewelry design competition. Heard won the CASE Award in the Retailer Jewelry $10,001 to $50,000 (retail value) category.
"Susan Oliver Heard, the visionary behind Heard Gallery, has spent over 30 years crafting jewelry inspired by her deep love for nature and wildlife. With a keen eye for stones and colors, she channels her passion for photography and her fascination with creatures like seahorses, crocodiles, and octopuses into her intricate designs. Each piece tells a story, capturing the essence of the animals she admires. Known for her functional artistry, Susan's designs not only honor the natural world but are also thoughtfully created to wear beautifully. Her accolades include winning the prestigious Jewelers of America CASE Award in 2024 and placing in the Jewelers for Children competition in 2004. With exhibitions at notable events like ZONA MACO in Mexico City, Round Top, TX, and Telluride, CO, her work continues to captivate collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Susan’s jewelry is a testament to her dedication to creativity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to nature."
ECLIPSE GLASSES
A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky darkens as if it were dawn or dusk.
In 2026 the path of totality will run from Greenland to Mallora, Spain. In April 2024, these glasses provided the best lenses to view the Sun- particularly in cloudy conditions. This is how the ancients viewed the eclipses. The lenses are made from Obsidian purchased at Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico.

Following the pandemic, a shift was made to get back to my roots and create a cohesive jewelry line to complement the art consulting business. In Spring 2022, I moved to Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico to create this line of jewelry. Jewelry led to objects and boxes and new bigger ideas. The new development incorporates all the parts of minerals, jewelry, art, and curating. The debut of Heard Gallery In its new form opens at the 20th anniversary of ZONA MACO in Mexico City, February 2024.
